A Queens neighborhood rebuilding from Superstorm Sandy honored a victim of the Sandy Hook School tragedy on Sunday.
A playground in Breezy Point was dedicated in memory of guidance counselor Mary Sherlach. She was one of the 26 people killed in the Newtown shooting last year. ‘The Sandy Ground Project: where angels play’ is an initiative of the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association. They are building playgrounds in 26 communities affected by the storm. Each one will be dedicated to a victim of the Newtown shooting. Mary Sherlach’s husband and two daughters were at today’s dedication. And said it’s a perfect way to remember Mary. Breezy point was picked for the Mary Sherlach park because of her love of water and her New York ties. She and her husband attended Suny-Cortland.
