The Fairfield community is invited to participate in the groundbreaking and ribbon cutting ceremonies this weekend at Penfield Beach in Fairfield for “The Sandy Ground: Where Angels Play” playground to honor Sandy Hook Elementary’s Jessica Rekos. Jessica was one of twenty children and six educators lost on December 14th 2012 in Sandy Hook. The Rekos family has graciously agreed to lend Jessica’s spirit to the Fairfield community, as Krista, Jessica’s mom, a proud member of the teaching profession and a graduate of Fairfield University, has close ties to the community.

“The Sandy Ground: Where Angels Play” was launched by the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association in Sea Bright, New Jersey, in March, with a mission to build 26 playgrounds in Hurricane Sandy affected areas, while honoring the lives of the 26 angels that were lost at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Eight playgrounds have been completed throughout New Jersey and Connecticut, and the project will now be making its way to Penfield Beach in Fairfield, CT.  The Fairfield playground honoring Jessica Rekos’ life will be celebrated with a playground that will reflect her favorite colors and her love of horses and Orca whales.
